Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect at my first visit at the Better Health And Rehab Clinic?

We want to learn about you at the first visit which is why it is one hour in length (subsequent visits are 30 minutes). This will entail completing a thorough intake about who you are which can take about 15 minutes. This will be followed by a thorough examination.

Read more about the process here.

Can I use the Better Health And Rehab Clinic as my Primary Care Provider?

Yes. However, the clinic is designed for people who want to improve their health and move away from the use of oral medications for the management of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and chronic pain to name a few.

What tools will be used to improve my health?

Dr. Brown combines her experience as a Physician, Acupuncturist, Massage Therapist and Personal Trainer while simultaneously utilizing the core principles of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Functional Medicine to create an individualized health plan. Each patient’s experience will be unique.

What is Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation?

It is the practice of medicine that addresses the whole person with a goal of improving function such as walking, transferring from one surface to the other, bathing, grooming, toileting, cooking, meal preparation, shopping, etc.

What is Functional Medicine?

It is the practice of medicine that assesses the whole person including your family and pre-birth history as well as any insults/major health events that may have happened in life.

What problems does the Better Health And Rehab Clinic treat?

Our core principle is to improve health and restore function, so we treat most conditions. We do specialize in the management of chronic pain as well as working with those affected by spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke and other neurologic conditions.

Do you offer Health insurance coverage?

Yes, we do accept most health insurance plans. As noted prior, we will let you know if we accept your insurance. If not, we will let you know the cost; it will be your decision as to whether you can afford the payment which will be processed prior to your visit with Dr. Brown.
Some insurance plans cover acupuncture; it is recommended that you check with your insurance carrier first prior to calling Better Health And Rehab for an appointment. Workers' Comp and Auto PIP require your Doctor's prescription or Case Manager's authorization. As of the writing of this material, Medicare and Medicaid along with their supplemental insurances do not cover acupuncture treatment; however, there is a proposal for them to cover acupuncture for chronic back pain.

Most patients will have more questions such as:

  • Should I continue to see my medical doctor?
  • Should I continue taking my present medication?
  • What should I eat?
  • What exercises should I do?
  • Is there anything I can do for myself at home to support the benefits of my acupuncture treatment?
  • What signs should I look for that would indicate a successful acupuncture treatment and how long should it last?
You can discuss all these questions and more in person with Dr. Brown.
